After studying at the Law School of Geneva University and his admission to the Geneva Bar, Bernard Ballansat started work as a Secretary of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in this function was already involved in arbitration since the early stage of his career.
He then practised law in Washington D.C. and Geneva. As an attorney with the well known business law firm Lenz & Staehelin during 22 years, and a member of its Arbitration Department, he has acquired broad experience, in particular in arbitration, litigation and contracts. He subsequently practised in his own law firm, serves as a director of several Swiss companies and has served as a chairman in the Geneva Labour Court.
Bernard Ballansat regularly advises in arbitration law. He has been counsel, or co-counsel, for either party in more than 30 international arbitrations and has been appointed arbitrator (sole arbitrator, chairman of the arbitral tribunal or party-appointed arbitrator) in about 20 international arbitrations.
